Sewage and Stormwater Collection and Treatment System

Sewage, commonly referred to as wastewater (from the Latin term exgutta), is water that has had its natural characteristics altered after human use. Depending on whether it originates from commercial, industrial or domestic use, it may have different characteristics.

The return of sewage to the environment requires proper collection and routing to technical equipment designed for its treatment (WWTP), where harmful elements are removed before it is returned to the waterways of the region where it is located.

Sewage is routed to these treatment facilities through dedicated piping networks that must comply with specific norms and regulations.

Untreated sewage can harm the environment and human health. Pathogens can cause diseases such as cholera, diphtheria, typhoid, hepatitis, and many others.

Stormwater is directed and treated in separate networks based on the technical options and conditions of the region, as well as the strategies of the managing entities of each region.

With almost nine decades of accumulated experience and through its human and mechanical resources, CSM has undertaken numerous projects, both for private clients and public entities, including Municipalities, Municipal Services, Associations of Municipalities, and Águas de Portugal.
